VINI Merlot 2006, Thracian Valley, BEST BUY $7.49

Vini Merlot - Silver Medals at Tastings.com
Bulgarian terroir (combination of climate and soil) definitely brings out the best in the Merlot variety. 2004 is another good year delivering a solid wine with deep red color and complex structure. This Merlot is a medium to full body wine showing very pleasant core of ripe plums, dark cherries, sweet cinnamon and brown sugar nuances. A pronounced earthy and mineral aromas deliver more complexity and intrigue to the round soft finish of this wine. The relatively low acidity makes this wine easy to drink now and easy to pair with variety of food. The overall impression is of a well made wine destined to please even the most experienced oenophils. Miro Tcholakov
The Bulgarian wine, a 2004 Vini Merlot ($8) from the Thracian Valley, was the standout and something I'd happily drink. And it was the cheapest of the group. San Jose Mercury News, Mar. 29, 2006 |

VINI Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Thracian Valley, BEST BUY $7.49

Winemakers notes:
The wine is young and yet surprisingly drinkable. The fruity aromas of Bing cherries, plums and blackberries jump out of the glass. The fruit is followed by exotic spice aromas of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg. The dark red color leads to a corresponding medium to full body wine with soft, almost plush mouth feel and long juicy finish. Drink now or cellar for 3-5 years. Miro Tcholakov
